We had never been surfing before when we had our 1st lesson with Christian Boos and were a little unsure of what to expect but this guy is a legend. He immediately puts everyone at ease with his charm and wit and that’s what took the edge off our first ever surf. Surfing in Barbados is excellent and ideal for beginners.
We met up with Christian at Surfers Café and he took us to Freights Bay where we did some exercises on the shore, learning the steps, before putting it all to practice. A two-hour lesson is 100 BDS and is worth every penny… Especially as Christian doesn’t wear a watch and has a tendency to overrun! Normally you will be in a group of about 6 people which is great as it’s sociable but also gives you time to relax, catch your breath and enjoy the stunning surroundings between the wave-riding. In fact, you will probably see a few turtles too!
We are pleased to report that we had no problems getting up on the first attempt and Christian’s instruction coupled with his enthusiasm is a huge boost. Christian even goes the extra mile and films you surfing with his GoPro so you can take the footage home. At the end of the session you will have had an amazing work out and be a few shades darker. What’s not to love? Oh… Put sun-cream on the backs of your legs!
